Oklahoma officials are reacting to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Senator Markwayne Mullin posted that he is praying for Trump, law enforcement and the country. Senator James Lankford noted that political disagreement is part of our national identity, but violence is never the solution.

Former state Attorney General Drew Edmondson says the shooting was reprehensible. "We should speak with one voice that this is unacceptable in a democratic society. Absolutely unacceptable. Anything like this only tends to distance the candidate from the people and that is not a part of the democratic process," said Edmondson.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt said, "My prayers are with President Trump— and we should all feel so thankful for the swift response by the Secret Service and law enforcement. While details are still coming in, we can’t tolerate attempts to thwart democracy with political violence. Period."

"This was a RECKLESS assassination attempt that put thousands of people in danger - and resulted in one death and multiple injuries," said Oklahoma Congressman Kevin Hern. "THANK GOD President Trump is okay. Violence is NEVER the answer. But I think it goes a step further than that. Words matter."

"I’m praying for President Trump today. Political violence is never the answer," said Congressman Frank Lucas.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt noted that the people of Oklahoma join all Americans in the condemnation of political violence.
