Drummond Calls Supreme Court Decision "Promising"

Oklahoma's Attorney General says the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to not take up the case of a public charter school's dress code is promising for the state. Gentner Drummond said the Court deciding against hearing the North Carolina school's appeal is good for Oklahomans who are "troubled by the possibility of state-funded religious charter schools." The Court has defered to a lower court's ruling that the Charter Day School could not require girls to wear skirts while boys could wear shorts or pants. The lower court said public charter schools were "state actors," meaning they had to follow federal law including the equal protection guarantee.
