Robocall Crackdown

Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter has joined a bipartisan coalition of more than 30 attorneys general who have sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, asking the FCC to allow telephone service providers to use new authentication technology to block robocalls and scam phone calls before they reach consumers - even though the calls appear to be legitimate, local phone numbers. The providers want to launch the new technology next year. "Illegal robocalls are irritating and disconcerting, and phone scammers are successfully able to steal personal information, leaving Oklahomans susceptible to identity theft," Hunter said. "It is time to take more action and give service providers more tools in order for them to protect consumers from these scams."
