A group called Restore Oklahoma Now, Inc. has filed a petition with the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office seeking a statewide vote on raising the gross production tax to seven percent on all oil and natural gas wells in Oklahoma. The revenue would be used to give teachers a $4,000 pay raise, hire new teachers, and fund early-childhood education. Co-founder Micky Thompson says raising the tax would generate about $333 million dollars annually.
