New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye told reporters that he received a pain-killing injection for his injured right throwing shoulder injury after struggling in his team's 29-13 Super Bowl LX blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday (February 8) night.

"I shot it up, so not much feeling. It was good to go, and it felt all right," he said via ESPN.

Maye, who finished second to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford for MVP voting in the closest margin since 2003, threw for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 27 of 43 passing. The Patriots were held scoreless through three full quarters before briefly finding somewhat of a rhythm in the fourth, through, the Seahawks forced both of Maye's two interceptions, including one returned by Uchnna Nwosu for a 45-yard touchdown with 4:27 remaining.

New England ranked third in total yards (397.4 average) during the 2025 NFL regular season, but was held to 331 with a 6 of 15 third down efficiency in Sunday's loss.

"I think it would be hard to say that. I was feeling good enough to be out there," Maye said when asked if he felt his injured shoulder limited him via ESPN. "I wouldn't put the team in harm's way to not be myself. Just didn't make plays tonight."

Maye had previously downplayed concerns about a potential shoulder injury during Super Bowl XL Opening Night on Monday (February 1), claiming he felt good after a throwing session earlier in the day.

"I feel good. I'll be just fine," he said at the time via NFL.com. "I threw a good bit. I threw as much as I would at a normal practice. I felt great and looking forward to getting back out there Wednesday and Thursday for practice and Friday to get ready for a normal week of prep."

Maye was listed as questionable on the Patriots' Super Bowl bye week injury report after previously being "limited" for a hypothetical practice scenario. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has also previously downplayed the injury, claiming he tries "not to have a whole lot of concern" and "just want to try to prepare the football team and make sure that everybody's ready and that we all have a plan" while addressing reporters on January 29 via Yahoo Sports.

Maye threw for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 354 of 492 passing (72% completions), while leading the Patriots to a 14-3 record, their first AFC East Division title since 2019 and their first Super Bowl appearance in seven years during his second NFL season.
