Governor Mary Fallin says the criminal charges against Republican State Senator Ralph Shortey don't reflect the character and decorum that is expected of an elected official. She says Shortey should resign his seat in the Senate.
Senate President Pro Tem Mike Schulz has already sent Shortey a letter asking for his immediate resignation.
Senate Democratic leader John Sparks says remaining a member of the Senate is not an option for Senator Shortey. And Oklahoma County Republican Party Chairman Daren Ward says Shortey is unfit to serve while facing horrific allegations.
Shortey surrendered to authorities at the Cleveland County Detention Center in Norman on Thursday after being charged with three child-prostitution related felonies.
