State Legislature Pass Redistricting Maps, Democrats Express Disapproval

Oklahoma Democrats are speaking out against the redistricting maps passed by the State Legislature on Friday. Senator George Young says the maps were drawn with a "political purpose in mind," and to limit the Hispanic vote in the state. Critics point to the redrawn Fifth Congressional District, which cuts the percentage of Hispanic voters in half from the current map. Republican Senator Lonnie Paxton, who led the chamber's Redistricting Committee, says race was not a factor in the process. The maps are headed to Governor Stitt's desk for final approval.
