Tulsa Race Massacre Event Canceled Due To 'Unexpected Circumstances'

A highly anticipated event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre is canceled. The Tulsa Centennial Commission announced they could not move forward with Remember and Rise due to "unexpected circumstances" with the event's entertainers and speakers. The nationally-televised tribute to the victims of the 1921 attack was set to feature singer John Legend and a speech from Stacey Abrams. The cancellation comes after a warning from Homeland Security officials that the commemoration could be a target for white supremacists.
