Oklahoma will need a new U.S. Senator. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin will become Homeland Security secretary on March 30th. Governor Kevin Stitt will have 30 days after Mullin leaves the Senate to appoint an eligible temporary replacement. The appointee by the governor will not be able to run in the special election or next regular election for the Senate seat and must take an oath not to do so.

Oklahoma Republican U.S. Representatives Stephanie Bice and Kevin Hern both announced yesterday that they are considering a run for the seat currently held by Mullin.

In a post on X, Bice said, "Senator Mullin has been a tireless warrior for President Trump’s agenda and a great friend. I’m excited for him to take on the role of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security He will do tremendous work. He has been a great leader for Oklahoma, and I have no doubt he will continue to do the same."
