Teacher Pay Raise State Question Will Move Forward

The State Supreme Court ruled Monday a proposed state question that calls for an increase in the gross production tax to fund a $4,000 teacher pay raise is legally sufficient. The Court rejected a challenge to SQ 795 from The Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association. Mickey Thompson with Restore Oklahoma Now, Inc., the group behind the state question, tells KTOK News the signature-gathering phase will now begin. They have to collect about 124,000 signatures. Thompson says the effort will cost about $750,000. SQ 795 would increase the gross production tax to seven percent on all oil and natural gas production.
