The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals is issuing stays of execution for two Oklahoma death row inmates. John Grant was scheduled to be executed today after being on death row for the past 23 years for the killing of an Oklahoma corrections center employee. Julius Jones was scheduled to be put to death on November 18th for the 1999 killing of Edmond businessman Paul Howell, and his clemency hearing will take place next week. The state of Oklahoma later filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to have the stay on John Grant's execution vacated.
