School Medical Bill Advances

Certain school personnel would be protected from lawsuits under the Good Samaritan Act for trying to administer opiate antagonists in the event of a suspected drug overdose.

This, under a bill run by state Senator Greg McCortney, of Ada.

"Clarifies that they can save a student's life and if they try to save a student's life, no one can sue them for doing so," McCortney said.

McCortney said smaller school districts which might not have medical personnel on staff could designate someone to administer opiate antagonists.

The bill's on its way to a House committee.
