A new compact is signed between the Cherokee Nation and the federal government. Officials say that the Tribal Transportation Self-Governance Program compact will give tribal planners more control over how they construct and pay for transportation infrastructure. U.S. Department of Transportation officials say that the compact will create a blueprint for other tribal agreements.
