State School Board Votes To Change Language Of Alert System

The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted yesterday to change the language in a proposed COVID-19 Alert System for the upcoming academic year. The color-coded system would issue guidelines for safety precautions based on the case rate in the area. The state board will no longer require districts to follow the system's recommendations, allowing local school boards to decide individually. State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister called the decision "disappointing," and said it would "stoke concerns with teachers, families, students."
