The state of Oklahoma reached an agreement with Native American tribes yesterday on how criminal jurisdiction will be handled going forward. Attorney General Mike Hunter says tribal courts will handle Indian on Indian misdemeanors, while major crimes will go to federal court. Hunter said law enforcement officers will have to be cross-deputized with the reservations, and vice versa. The agreement comes after the Supreme Court ruled last week that a large portion of Eastern Oklahoma is still an Indian Reservation. The deal still needs to be approved by Congress and signed by President Trump.
