The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a large portion of eastern Oklahoma is still a Native American reservation. In a five-four decision, the court ruled that the federal government never terminated the Creek Nation's reservation, which stretches across eight counties and includes most of Tulsa. The case revolved around the conviction of Jimmy McGirt, a Native American who was found guilty of sex crimes by state authorities for a crime that happened on the reservation. The decision overturned McGint's conviction, and the state attorney general's office warned that hundreds more could follow.
