Some Oklahoma residents have been given the green light to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.

Around 24% of Oklahoma's population is considered immunocompromised, but only select people within that group can immediately get the booster, KOCO reported.

It's limited to people who have had organ transplants or who are on immunosuppressing drugs.

"These patients are the ones that were having more breakthrough infections and their antibody response wasn't as good as the general population," former Oklahoma State Medical Association President Dr. George Monks told KOKH.

Organ transplant recipient Ann Arthur rolled up her sleeve this weekend to get the booster in Oklahoma City.

"As soon as they OKed the booster, I've never been as excited to get a vaccine in my life. I won't have as much of a worry, but I think I'll always worry just because I don't want to end up back in the hospital dead from this virus," she told KOCO.

Those currently approved for the booster can get it at CVS Pharmacy or Walgreens, while those who may be eligible are encouraged to talk to the doctor.

U.S. health officials are expected to announce within the coming weeks if booster shots will be offered to older people and other vulnerable populations.
