You can tell a lot about a state based on its regional fast food chains.

These mom and pop chains give a taste of the local flavor and usually have some quirky local history as a part of its name or story.

Even though a lot of these regional chains don't cross state lines, people are fiercely protective of these local businesses and will the be first one to say how a small town shop is so much better than McDonald's.

That's why foodie website Mashed complied of the list of the best regional fast food chains in every state. The publication picked the the chains based on their personality, local quirks, and if they have a food that can't be found any where else in the U.S.

So what's the best in Oklahoma?

It's Braum's.

Here's what Mashed had to say about the popular spot:

The Braum family has been in the dairy and ice cream business since the 1950s and opened the first Braum's in Oklahoma City in 1968. Braum's keeps tight control over their dairy herds (via High Plains Journal), and all of its nearly 300 locations are within a 300-mile radius of the main processing plant.
Their ice cream is always a hit, but Braum's serves more than just that. The Los Angeles Times raved about Braum's burgers and fries, for one, and their spicy chicken sandwich is also delicious.
