2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games Are Closed

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea have officially come to an end. The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, marked the end of the games by handing the Olympic flag to Chen Jining, the mayor of Beijing, where the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held after the city previously hosted the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Beijing will become the first city to have hosted both the summer and winter games.

The symbolic handover was followed by a high-tech lightshow while dancers and giant pandas skated through the stadium.

Norway skated away with the highest medal count, with 39 medals. The U.S. finished fourth overall with 23 medals, behind Germany and Canada.

The United States made history in several events, including Women's Hockey who won gold for the first time in 20 years, and Men's Curling, who also took gold with an upset win over Sweden.

The 2018 Winter Games were also filled with political intrigue. Just moments before the closing ceremonies began, South Korean officials announced that North Korea was willing to hold talks with the United States.
