Pledge Bill Passes
Posted Monday, February 17th 2014 @ 3pm

(AP) Oklahoma schoolchildren would be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day under two bills that cleared a legislative committee on Monday. The Senate Education Committee passed both bills on Monday with just one dissenting vote. Both measures can now be scheduled for a hearing before the full Senate. One bill would force elementary students to recite the pledge each day, while it would be optional for other public schools in the district. A second bill would require the pledge to be recited every day in all public schools. Under current law, the Pledge of Allegiance is authorized but not required.
